The Cody Basketball teams were in Afton Wyoming for the Class 4A West Regional Tournament.

The Fillies would claim the Regional Championship, that’s back-to-back years the Fillies have won the Regional Title.

They would defeat Green River in the Championship, 58-37.

The Fillies would hit the hardwood, Saturday, looking not only for the Regional Title but their 22nd win of the season. They would get both.

They started of the game strong, taking a 20-9 lead after one quarter of play.

The Fillies would extend their lead at the half 34-20.

Green River would not back down as both teams played an even 3rd quarter but the Fillies big opening lead was to much to overcome as they hung on for the win.

Ally Boysen had her self a career day in the title game. She was the focal point of the offense, dropping in 22 points to lead the way. Molly Hays added 13 for the Fillies who had 8 different players score.

Here is the postgame following the Fillies Regional Championship:

On Friday, the Fillies would square off with Kelly Walsh for the 3rd time this season. As they say, it’s hard to beat a team 3 times in one season but the Fillies proved otherwise.

They dropped in 30 first quarter points en-route to the 71-35 victory.

KW would punch Cody in the mouth in that 2nd frame, outscoring the Fillies 17-11 in the 2nd quarter. The Fillies took that personally.

The Lady Trojans would only score 9 points in the 2nd half…. It was a physical, contested contest and the Fillies showed they can play that kind of game if needed.

Molly Hays had 20 to lead the way in that one. Ally Boysen added 17 while battling foul trouble all game. Kennedi Niemann had 14.

Meanwhile, the Cody Broncs have punched their ticket to State. The Broncs defeated Rock Springs 60-47, on Saturday, to clinch a spot in the State Tourney. The Broncs will be the 4 seed at State.

After dropping their fist game at the Regional Tournament the Cody Bronc Basketball team would scratch, claw and fight their way through the losers bracket.

On Friday, the Broncs would find their backs against the wall as they faced-off with Kelly Walsh for the 3rd time this season.

The Broncs would trail early in this one 9-5, controlled the rest of the game.

Cody took the 19-15 lead into the halftime locker room and it was all Cody from there.

They extended their lead to 33-23 after 3.

The Trojans would go on a little run to start the 4th, cutting the Broncs lead to just 4 but Kam Niemann responded with a big 3 and it was all Cody after that point. Grady McCarten knocked down clutch free throws and Luke Talich sealed the game with a 2-hand slam to keep their season alive.

On Saturday, they would then face Rock Springs with a trip to State on the line.

Both teams would exchange blows in the 1st half with Cody holding a 2-point advantage at the half, leading 20-18.

The Broncs would begin to take control in the 3rd. Cody opened the quarter on a 7-0 run to build their lead to 10. Rock Springs would answer and Cody held a 4-point advantage heading into the final frame.

The Broncs would own the fourth outscoring the Tigers 20-9.

Luke Talich feasted in this one, scoring 8 of his game high 20 in the final quarter. Kam Niemann nailed clutch free throws and the Broncs punched their ticket to State.

Following all the action I caught up with Kam Niemann to discuss what it means for this team to head to State.

The Broncs would then take on Jackson in the 3rd place game, not even an hour later and fell 59-51.

This will be the first time since the 2006-2007 season that the Broncs will compete in the 4A State Tournament.

Following all the weekend’s action, the Fillies are now 22-0 on the season while the Broncs are 13-9.

Both Cody teams will begin State Tournament play on Thursday. The Fillies will face the 4 seed, out of the East, Campbell County, at 6pm.

The Broncs will take on the 1 seed out of the east, Thunder Basin, at 9pm.

I’ll have the call of every Cody Basketball game at State live on KODI.
