CODY HIGH SCHOOL WAS THE HOME TO THE 4A WEST REGIONAL VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT OVER THE WEEKEND.
KELLY WALSH WOULD BRING HOME THE CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP AFTER DEFEATING ROCK SPRINGS 3 GAMES TO 0.
FOR THE CODY FILLIES, THEIR SEASON CAME TO A CLOSE THIS WEEKEND. AFTER DROPPING THEIR FIRST MATCH TO STAR VALLEY 3 GAMES TO 1 THE FILLIES WERE ON THE COMEBACK TRAIL VS. GREEN RIVER,SATURDAY. CODY WON THE FIRST SET BUT FOUND THEMSELVES DOWN 2 SETS TO 1 BEFORE WINNING GAME 4 AND TYING THINGS UP. IT WAS A HARD FOUGHT 5TH SET BUT IN THE END GREEN RIVER PROVED TO BE TO MUCH DEFEATING CODY 3 GAMES TO 2.
HEAD COACH STEPHANIE BIRCH SHARED HER THOUGHTS ON THE FILLIES SEASON AFTER THE LOSS.
“YOU KNOW I CAN’T FAULT THEIR EFFORT. I CAN’T FAULT THEIR PASSION, THEIR ATTITUDE. WE HAD A GREAT WEEK OF PRACTICE AND FOR THEM TO COME INTO THIS BIG TOURNAMENT AND TO BE PLAYING PROBABLY SOME OF THE BEST VOLLEYBALL THAT WE’VE BEEN PLAYING SINCE A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO, I COULD NOT BE MORE PROUD OF THE EFFORT.”
NEXT YEAR THE FILLIES BRING NEARLY EVERYONE BACK FROM THIS YEAR’S ROSTER AND COACH BIRCH TALKS ABOUT WHAT SHE’S LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT.
“THERE’S NOT GOING TO BE A GAME ON OUR SCHEDULE NEXT YEAR THAT’S GOING TO BE TO BIG FOR THESE GIRLS. THEY SHOULD GO INTO EVERY GAME CONFIDENT BECAUSE THEY’VE GONE THROUGH SO MANY DIFFERENT TYPES OF EXPERIENCES. THEY’RE GOING TO COMEBACK 100 YEARS OLDER, GAME WISE.”
