Cody Faces Challenges with Summer Workforce

There will be challenges putting together the workforce for this summer’s tourist season in Cody, Tina Hoebelheinrich said Tuesday morning on KODI’s “Speak Your Piece with Darian Dudrick.”

“We bring on an additional 1,500 workers,” the Cody Country Chamber of Commerce executive director said. “And those 1,500 extra people that we need during the peak season don’t all live here.”

Hoebelheinrich said many of Cody’s hospitality businesses rely on temporary workers who enter the country legally through federal work programs. This year, however, there has been a moratorium on immigrant interviews, creating a huge bottleneck of getting people to the U.S. for work, she added.

Another challenge is housing, due to Cody’s current tight housing market, Hoebelheinrich said.

She did, however, offer a solution for businesses needing summer help.

“This is a great season for kids to look for their first summer job,” she said.
