A national publication is letting the public decide which American small town is the most artistic – and Cody is amongst the top 10 and climbing . . .
U.S.A. Today has enlisted the American people to vote on their latest poll for the 10 Best Readers Choice 2021. The magazine’s travel experts select the top 20 nominees in contests covering several topics – food, lodging, destinations, etc. – and let readers vote on the best.
20 small towns across the nation have been chosen and are now competing for the title of “the Best Small Town Art Scene.”
The website’s description of the contest reads:
Someday, we’ll all be ready to pack our suitcases again and head out on our next adventures. In the meantime, we’ll keep supporting the places that inspire us. Contact individual towns for the latest updates. Bigger isn’t always better, especially when it comes to these 20 small towns, each with a population of fewer than 30,000 people (as of the last census). What each lacks in size makes up for with a big art scene – museums, art galleries, performing arts, and busy event calendars.
Cody’s description lists several local art galleries and the Buffalo Bill Art Show and Sale as the reasons why travel experts chose our town as one of the twenty small towns for the poll.
The former home of Buffalo Bill now hosts a vibrant arts community, thanks to the Cody Country Art League, Big Horn Galleries, Simpson Gallagher Gallery, and Mountain Valley Artistry. Visit during the annual Buffalo Bill Art Show & Sale to find pieces celebrating the American West.
As of Thursday, April 1, Cody ranks 7th on the list.
The top ten list as of April 1 is:
- Rahway, New Jersey
- Gatlinburg, Tennessee
- Eureka Springs, Arkansas
- Lucas, Kansas
- Manitou Springs, Colorado
- Taos, New Mexico
- Cody, Wyoming
- Carmel-by-the-Sea, California
- Stockbridge, Massachusetts
- Yellow Springs, Ohio
Voting is open until April 26 with winners announced on May 7.
All American citizens 18 and older can have one vote, per category, every eight hours. At the end of the 28-day voting period, the town that receives the most eligible votes will be designated as the Readers’ Choice.
If it wins, Cody could be awarded a badge of recognition as the 10Best Readers’ Choice for the best Small-Town Arts Scene.
