After their fourth appearance at the state championship football game in four years, the Cody Broncs football schedule has been released.
The schedule was confirmed by Head Coach Matt McFadden. The Broncs will look to make a fifth consecutive trip to War Memorial Stadium in Laramie going 41-4 over the last four seasons. Cody will seek their fourth title since 2017.
Fans will notice changes from last season. The schedule will reflect a new order of opponents in conference games. Specifically, the Broncs will take on the Powell Panthers to open up 3A West conference play. Last year, the rivals ended the regular season with 22-19 score in favor of Cody.
The season begins with non-conference play, featuring three teams who made the post season from the east with Riverton, Buffalo, and Douglas. Cody begins the season by making a trip to Fremont County to take on Lander in week zero. The Broncs the following week will take on the other 3A Fremont County squad in Riverton who were the 3A East regular season champs from a year ago. Cody’s home opener is against the Wolverines on September 9.
One change in the non-conference schedule for the Broncs is they will not play Worland, as the Warriors dropped down to 2A this upcoming season due to the reclassification. Instead, Cody will battle Douglas on the road in week two; a rematch of last year’s quarter-final game. The Broncs will conclude the non-conference games at home against Buffalo the following week.
The conference games for Cody begin on the road 24 miles east of Cody where they take on the Powell Panthers in the Big Horn Brawl on September 27. It will be followed by Evanston at home.
In week six, the Broncs will look to snap a three-game losing streak in Afton against Star Valley. The Braves have been victorious over Cody in the last three games played, including the last two state championships.
They will be back home against Green River in their final home game of the regular season on October 18. The regular season campaign will end in Teton County against Jackson who will have a new head coach this upcoming season.
