The 2023 Wyoming High School 3A State Championships were in Cheyenne this past week at the Cheyenne Country Club.
Teams competing in the 3A State meet were: Evanston, Worland, Riverton, Buffalo, Cody, Lander, Mountain View, Rawlins, Lyman, Torrington, Douglas, Pine Bluffs, Newcastle, Green River, Powell, and Wheatland.
The meet was at an elevation less familiar with the Big Horn Basin runners, but didn’t seem to slow them as the Boys and Girls individual State Champions were from the Big Horn Basin.
For the Broncs Charlie Hulbert would win the race and become the 2023 Boys Individual State Champion.
The Broncs would also take 3rd with Benjamin Stewart running a 16:46.37.
The remaining Cody Boys finished Val Payne 22nd, Noah Kingston 27th, and Bryce Stevenson 58th, Randall Nielson, and Syrus Bates would help push the pack.
There were over 104 runners and 16 teams for the Boys.
The Cody Broncs Cross Country team finished 5th overall.
For the Fillies the top finisher was Freshman Lillie Kirkham with a 4th place finish.
The Girls race was won by Worland’s Zena Tapia.
The remain 4 Fillies point scorers were Hallie Schramm 10th, Keira Jackson 14th, Kylee Silva 21st, and Mersades Jackson 27th, Julia Botts, and Elsa Wachob also contributed.
The Fillies finished 2nd overall as a team.
96 girls ran in the race.
