Cody Basketball Sweeps Rock Springs, Falls to Natrona

Both Cody basketball teams were back in action with a pair of quad games over the weekend.

Both teams would fall to Natrona on Friday but both would earn bounce back performances on Saturday with the Fillies putting up a season high 62 points against Rock Springs with Brittan Bower leading the way with season high 14 points as the Fillies cruised to a 62-28 win over the Lady Tigers.

The Fillies offensive explosion saw them score 24 first quarter points and they took a 35-16 lead into the halftime break. Rock Springs, after scoring 14 second quarter points only scored 12 points for the rest of the game.

Every player that dressed for the game would see playing time for the Fillies on Saturday.

Four Fillies scored in double figures, led by Bowers season high 14 points. Reece Niemann and Molly Hays had 13 a piece while Izzy Radakovich dropped in 10 for the Fillies.

Taking a look at the Fillies top 5 match-up against Natrona from Friday. That contest saw Cody lead after each of the first three quarters. Cody was able to build a seven point lead early in the fourth but Natrona proved to be to much in the end forcing Cody into 27 turnovers in the contest. Natrona outscored Cody 18-12 in the final frame to help them to the 49-46 win.

Following the weekend split the Cody Fillies are 13-4 overall, 3-2 in league play and have clinched the No. 2 seed for the Regional tournament.

As for the Broncs, on Friday they would fall to Natrona 67-39. The Broncs would then flip the script and bounced back Saturday earning a hard fought come from behind victory over Rock Springs, 40-34. After putting up just eight first half points, against the Tigers, the Broncs dropped in 32 in the 2nd half for the win.

Picking things up in the third quarter where the Broncs trailed 17-8. For the most part the third frame was a back-and-forth contest until about mid way through. The Broncs made a defensive switch that totally changed the game. Cody Phillips would provide stellar defense and energy and it was his defensive effort that shut down the Tigers point guard in that third frame that started the Broncs comeback. After a pair of made threes by Luke Talich, the Broncs captured all the momentum.

The Broncs outscored Rock Springs 15-6 in the final frame and at one point led by 12 until the Tigers hit a pair of desperation threes in the final 30 seconds and Cody came away with a tough gritty win.

Luke Talich led the way for Cody in the win with 24 points. Caleb Pryor and Tristan Dollard combined to score 14.

Following the weekends action the Broncs are 4-13 overall, 2-3 in quad play
