Despite intense opposition in her own state, Liz Cheney continues to achieve record-breaking fundraising in anticipation of the 2022 Election.
Wyoming representative Liz Cheney isn’t backing down from the looming fight for the state’s sole seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. If her finances are any indication, she stands a better chance than anyone.
In the first quarter of 2021, Cheney raised a record-breaking $1.5 million for her reelection campaign in 2022. In the second quarter, she’s raised an additional $1.88 million for the campaign.
According to Fox News, this is a record-setting year for Representative Cheney. The nearly $3.5 million Wyoming’s three-term at large member of the House has raised so far this year surpasses the $3 million Cheney brought in during the entire 2020 cycle.
In addition, the Cheney Campaign has said there is another $2.85 million cash on hand as of the end of June, doubling the $1.43 million in the campaign coffers three months ago.
This record fundraising flies in the face of Cheney’s numerous challengers and several Wyoming Republican parties, which have already done everything currently possible to stop her future reelection.
Because of Cheney’s vote to impeach former President Donald Trump, Cheney was censured by the Wyoming Republican Party in February 2021. Before that, over a dozen county parties censured Cheney as well.
On the national stage, Cheney was ousted from her position as the No. 3 Republican in the House of Representatives. In May, House Republicans voted to strip her of the position as she persistently broke with the party-line regarding former President Trump.
Despite all of this, Cheney remains adamant that Trump is directly responsible for the Jan. 6 attack at the U.S. Capitol and he should be brought to justice. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi appointed Cheney to a House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack, which Cheney considers an honor.
Every dollar raised by Cheney is bad news for Cheney’s Republican challengers in the upcoming primary. A definitive front-runner has yet to emerge but none of the eight challengers have raised even a fraction of the amount Cheney has already acquired.
