Cheney: Never Put Politics Above Constitution

Wyoming U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney remains unwavering on her criticism of Donald Trump, even if that opinion could cost her re-election in 2022.

Cheney reiterated her feelings about the former president Thursday morning on KODI’s “Speak Your Piece with Darian Dudrick.”

After the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol, Cheney accused Trump of inciting the violence during his speech that same day. Later, she and nine other Republican representatives joined House Democrats in voting to impeach Trump. (The former president was acquitted on the charge of inciting an insurrection.)

“All of the facts demonstrate his (Trump’s) culpability. Yet, because he’s a member of my party, I’m not going to vote to impeach him? That can never be the conclusion you reach,” Cheney told Dudrick.

“I fully recognize if the people of Wyoming decide that that’s the kind of representative they want, then I’m not their person, because I will never do that.”

Cheney continued, “When you are elected to office, you represent the people who elected you, but representing the people who elected you can never mean that you put politics above the Constitution.”
