There’s changes to the Requests for Proposal to run concessions in Hot Springs State Park.
The RFP for the state park was extended recently, due to new plans and opportunities. Nick Neylon, Deputy Director of Wyoming State Parks explains that the State Joint Appropriations has set aside half the amount the department requested for an outright purchase of the Days Inn within the Park’s boundaries. If this purchase moves forward, a new RFP would be released for the hotels operations – something the State neither has the interest nor the capability to do. This potential acquisition would change the landscape of the state park, in more ways than one.
As for the Star Plunge, that RFP is still open until March 2nd. Once its closed, the review process will be quick. A review board will be set up to review any and all proposals – assuming there’s more than one – and chose the one with e best plan for the management and improvement of the facility and its infrastructure. A contract will then be signed for the new vendor to take over operations by April 1st.
All this ensures that the popular tourist attraction is open and operating during the summer. Star Plunge is yet another Bighorn Basin fixture that ensures more business stays in the Basin. And stays longer.
But regardless of business, changes are coming to Hot Springs State Park.
