79.2% total response to date.
The 2020 U.S. Census continues and Wyoming closes in on 80% total response to date. While census takers are currently going door to door to collect responses from households who have yet to do so, the deadline to avoid that awkward interview rapidly approaches. September 30th is the deadline for census self-response. It’s still an option to submit your census information before the end of the month – online at 2020census.gov, by phone at 844-330-2020 (English), or by mailing back the paper form that was delivered to the household. A 7th mailing of the census questionnaire may have already found its way into your mailbox.
The Census Bureau’s Mobile Questionnaire Assistance program is currently visiting locations across Wyoming to encourage and assist people to self-respond to the 2020 Census. MQA representatives have visited grocery stores, food banks, libraries, unemployment offices, back-to-school events, and houses of worship. The goal is to reach people at locations where they naturally congregate to assist with completing questionnaires and answer questions that the public may have. You might encounter one such questionnaire during your next outing.
The importance of an accurate census cannot be underestimated, as it determines the distribution of billions of dollars in federal funding. Wyoming, as a state, is more dependent on federal funds than many other states so knowing exactly how many Wyomingites will benefit makes a world of difference.
So self-respond, if you haven’t already, or await the inevitable knock on your door.
