Bronc Golf Swings into Postseason Play

It’s been an impressive year on the links for the Cody Bronc Golf team in 2020. The Bronc Golfers have been a staple of consistency finishing 2nd place in each event they have entered this year. They will look to continue that consistency Friday when they take part in the 3A West Conference Tournament in Powell. The Schutzman brothers along with Hudson Oelschlager and newcomer Hunter Hall have led the team all year. Hunter, who is new to Cody, talks about fitting in with his teammates and gives insight into how they ultimately accomplish their goals.

“Oh we’ve all got along great. We all get along, we all have the same sense of humor so it didn’t take us but about five minutes and we were all chill. So that went well. We’re all just going to have to play our game. We can’t let anything dumb happen. Just keep consistency. If a bad shot happens, take your medicine, nothing to extreme.”

As for what he’s learned out here in Cody, Hunter says it’s great to be a part of a team and help each other out whenever needed.

“We all help each other. We all have… We can get frustrated. We all have high expectations. So we all try to keep each other calm, keep each other in the rhythm. Carter’s good at that, Hudson’s good at that. They’re calming me and Logan down. So that’s the key to it.”

And Hunter goes on to talk about some of his favorite courses here in Wyoming.

Courses were great. They were fun. I really liked Thermop, Thermop’s a good course. It’s a fun course. It’s a little tough but I like it. I like there, I like Buffalo. Buffalo’s really nice.” As for his favorite course. “Buffalo. Buffalo’s the best, yeah.”

Head Coach of the Broncs Jake Kraft talks about what he’s seen from Hunter this year and what it’s like having him on the team.

“Hunter really filled nicely into our varsity spot. He’s got quite a bit of game that he’s brought. He’s a home school connections academy kid who joined us at the beginning of this fall. He’s got a great swing, just needs to get more tournament golf under his belt. He’s also learning the golf courses around this part of the State. Last Friday was his first opportunity to play the back nine of Powell, which is our conference tournament. So to get that event in and allow him time to see the upcoming course was crucial for our varsity.”

And as for what coach is looking for out of the golfers this postseason…

“I think if our varsity makes good decisions out on the course in terms of not taking too big of a risk and putting themselves in a hole because we have to take four of the five scores for a team score. What we tell our kids is, there are several situations throughout the day where they need to make sure that they make the correct choice, not gamble too much, don’t put themselves in a bad scoring situation which ultimately affects the entire group.”

The Cody Bronc Golf team travels to Powell for the 3A West Conference Tournament, Friday. Stay tuned to the Big Horn Radio Network for results.
