Amended Public Health Orders Allow Larger Public Gatherings

25 is the new 10.

That’s the limit of persons allowed in certain venues, as part of the easing of restrictions announced by Governor Gordon. Effective today – May 15th – movie and performance theaters, opera houses, concert halls, and music halls may operate with more than 25 people in attendance, provided they observe the same social distancing measures in effect since Public Health Order Number 1 – that means 6 feet of distance.  This also allows for larger gatherings for churches, religious organizations, and funeral homes. In a similar vein, gyms may now open locker rooms, offer personal training and provide group classes for up to 20 participants. Childcare centers will be permitted to have up to 25 persons total in a classroom.

These new modified orders also give new concessions to restaurants. Indoor dining may now be offered in addition to outdoor dining, again under specific conditions that must be followed. Staff must be screened for COVID-19 before their shifts and sanitize themselves and their workspace frequently. Tables must also be adequate spaced to reduce the spread of infection. These are mostly the same standards for outdoor dining – a limit of 6 people to a table, with tables spaced 6 or more feet apart. And ideally, everyone sitting at a table will be related or already quarantined with each other.

It’s worth noting that these amendments are not permanent. They could be extended or revoked by May 31st. Personal responsibilities are paramount as things move forward, but for now it’s one more step towards normal.
