Last Saturday night could have turned deadly as a suspected drunk driver plowed into the Cody Firearms Experience.
A man plowed into the building and owner Paul Brock said the SUV severed a gas line which started filling up the building with gas.
Cody Volunteer Fire Department responded quickly and accessed the damage, quickly airing out the building. No one was hurt.
Fortunately, the building damage didn’t affect the range and the restaurant was in good shape after the crash.
The main issue was the natural gas which could have caused a tremendous explosion if enough trapped gas had been ignited by a single spark.
The accident happened around 10:30 last Saturday night and when the fire department arrived, they immediately shut off the natural gas main, then assessed that the enough gas had been trapped in the building that it was an explosion hazard. That when the crew set up fans, opened every available window or space to air out the building, allowing the gas to dissipate.
The driver, Juan Carlos Cancino-Cisneros, was arrested on a DUI charge as well as suspicion of felony property destruction and misdemeanor reckless endangering. The 30-year old had bond set at $25,000.
