A little girl is lucky to be alive after a bear crawled into her family’s tent and attacked her.
The black bear attacked the 3-year-old on Sunday at a private campground south or Red Lodge, according to Cowboy State Daily.
After the attack, the child was rushed to a hospital in Billings, but was released on Tuesday. The family, from Spokane, Washington, says that she is facing a long road in her recovery and a GoFundMe page has been set up to help cover the cost of medical bills.
Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks says the family was asleep in their tent at Perry’s RV Park and Campground when the bear made it’s way in and attacked. After the attack, the campground was evacuated and no one else was injured by the black bear.
Wildlife officials tracked down and killed the bear, a subadult female, the next day, according to FWP.
The Wyoming Game and Fish Department helped in searching and catching the bear, Dan Thompson, Game and Fish large carnivore specialist, tells Cowboy State Daily.
As far as prior incidents with people, wildlife officials say the bear had no history of encounters with humans and was probably drawn to the campsite because of food that was left unsecured near the tent.
