3 Cody Athletes Named Milward Simpson Award Finalists

On Wednesday, it was announced that 3 Cody athletes are finalists for the prestigious Milward Simpson Award.

This honor is given annually to the outstanding male and female high school senior in Wyoming. It is considered most most prestigious award an athlete can earn in their high school career.

The three Cody athletes who are up for this award include: Ally Boysen, Kennedi Niemann and Luke Talich.

Niemann and Talich most recently earned the Wilford Mower Award.

This is the 48th year of the Milward Simpson award and will be presented at a luncheon on Jun 17th, right here in Cody, at the Cody Auditorium.

Each Finalist is honored with a plaque.

Boysen is an all-state basketball and soccer player for the Fillies, who will be playing for the University of Wyoming next fall. She helped lead the Fillies basketball team to their first ever State Title this year. She also helped the Filly Soccer team repeat as State Champions in 2023. Boysen was the 3A girls soccer Player of the year in ’23.

Niemann has been a standout for the Fillies for 4 years, playing volleyball, basketball and soccer. She will play basketball at the next level for Pima Community College in Arizona.

Niemann earned all-state in basketball 3 times, and was also an all-state volleyball and soccer player. She helped lead the Cody Filly basketball team to their first ever State Title in program history, this year. The Fillies finished the season a perfect 25-0. She also was on the Soccer team who repeated as State Champions and helped lead the Volleyball team to a runner-up finish at State.

And Talich may go down as the best athlete in the history of Cody.

He’s been a standout for the Broncs for 4 years, playing football, basketball and running track. Talich has earned multiple All-State Awards in each sport.

Talich helped lead the Cody Bronc Football team to 2 State Championships in 2020 and 21. In 2021 he led the Broncs to their first undefeated season in program history. He was named to the Super 25 1st Team twice and took home Super 25 Defensive Player of Year in 2022. In basketball, Talich helped lead the Broncs to a 3rd place finish at State, their best placing at 4A state since 1996. Talich would then clean house at State Track winning the 100, 200 and long jump, while setting multiple Cody High records.
