The Cody Bronc and Filly Soccer teams will be in Cheyenne this weekend competing in the Class 3A State Tournament.
Today, a look at Cody’s upcoming opponents and treks through the state tourney.
Prior to the 2020 season which was cancelled due to Covid, the Cody Fillies had won three straight State Championships. The Fillies will be going for their 4th championship in a row this weekend.
The Fillies finished the 2021 season with the best record in Class 3A at 13-1-1, 11-1 in league play and have clinched the No. 1 Seed out of the west. The Fillies have scored 74 goals this season, that’s nearly 5 points per match. On the defensive side the Fillies have allowed just 9 goals all season. They don’t even average giving up 1 goal a game.
As for the Fillies first round opponent, Torrington, the lady Trailblazers have only scored 29 goals this season, that’s 2 goals per game but have given up 62, nearly 4.5 per contest. Torrignton finished 20216-8.
Heading into state the Fillies have not lost a game since April 10th while Torrington snapped a four game losing streak heading into the tourney.
And now taking a look at the Cody Broncs soccer team. The last time the Broncs made the post-season, back in 2019 they ended up taking 6th place. They lost in the consolation to Torrington. Now the Broncs will look for a little vengeance as they are matched up with the Trailblazers once again.
The Broncs finished the 2021 season 9-6 overall, 7-5 in league play and are the No. 4 seed heading into state. Lander wins the tiebreaker for the West No. 3 seed based on fewer goals allowed in conference play than Cody, 17 vs. 29.
The Broncs come into the match-up scoring 37 goals on the season, 2.5ppg while giving up 33, 2.2pa. Bronc Soccer has won 3 of their last 4 heading into the State tourney.
Torrington, 10-2-2 overall on the season, has scored 43 goals this season which is good for just over 3 per contest while giving up just 18 goals on the year. Torrington is on a 6-game win streak heading into the weekend.
