There is no sign yet of the Powell man who went missing on the North Fork two weeks ago.
Members of Park County Search and Rescue have logged over 600 man-hours to date searching for Gib Mathers on the North Fork with no success in locating him, according to the Park County Sheriff’s Office.
Mathers has been missing since Tuesday, January 31st. His pickup truck was discovered on Friday, February 3rd by a Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper, abandoned in a pull out on Highway 14-16-20 about ½ mile west of the Wapiti Campground.
Mathers was last seen by a local mail carrier on the 31st around 11:00 a.m. parked on the highway between the Wapiti Campground and Elk Fork Bridge, taking photographs.
Sheriff’s Office officials say that so far, the search has been extremely difficult due to conditions in the search area. The snow in the area is still 2-3 feet deep and the river is intermittently frozen over. Additionally, searchers have absolutely no idea of Mathers’ intentions or direction of travel. However, Search and Rescue volunteers will continue to monitor the conditions in the search area daily in the hopes of locating him.
