The Cody Fillies basketball team made history over the weekend, taking part in the Class 4A State Basketball tournament. While the Fillies would fall in the title game against Cheyenne East, 52-37, the Fillies made history by just stepping onto the hardwood for the title game. The 2021 Cody Fillies became the first girls basketball team in program history to play in a state title game. Their second place finish is the best in program history.
Prior to 2021, the last time the Fillies made a state semi-final game was 1996 and prior to this year, the best place a Cody Filly basketball team placed at state was 3rd place in 1994
It was an amazing run for the Fillies this season, finishing the year 18-6 on the season, 4-2 in league play. They entered the State Tournament as the No. 3 seed out of the west. They would knock off No. 2 out of the East, Thunder Basin, in the first round at state before throttling Sheridan in the second round, 54-33, to advance to the championship game.
