The bear trapping party is so good, its going to keep going.
The U.S Geological Survey and National Park Service announced that grizzly bear pre-baiting and scientific capture operations will be extended throughout Yellowstone National Park. These capture operations have been ongoing since the beginning of summer, but now they will continue from August 28th thru October 23rd. The Interagency Grizzly Bear Study Team will be operating in the park in the same areas where they have been working – as will, presumably, the grizzlies they are seeking to catch.
The purpose of these grizzly capture operations is the ongoing effort to firmly establish the endangered bears in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Culvert traps or foot snares will be used to capture the bears, baited with naturally enticing bear foods like road-killed elk and deer. The areas where these captures are occurring are obviously hazardous, which is why the primary access points have been posted with bright warning signs to inform you of where the traps are set and the bears are expected to appear. Its important that the signs be heeded and nobody venture inside. You might not like what you find there.
