Five Things to Do if Single on Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is coming up,  and in a month that is already over-saturated with red hearts and cheesy lines like “Be Mine,” Valentine’s day can be sickening.  Even for those who are already in a relationship or single, many believe Valentine’s day is an over-commercialized holiday that is annoying and unnecessary.  But with a holiday that is already catered to couples, what is one to do if single?  If you aren’t sure,  here are five ideas to get you through the holiday.

  1.  Go to a movie:   Going to a movie by yourself is sometimes more rewarding than going with someone else.  You do not have to share snacks,  you don’t have to compromise on a movie, and most importantly you do not have to do that weird lean-over whisper conversation saying “oh I want to go see that”
  2. Have a singles party:  Get all your singles friends together and have a fun night eating pizza and playing games.   Nothing like good friends and fun to make your Valentine’s day bearable.  But be warned if booze is involved some of those single friends might not be single by the end of the night.
  3. Treat yourself:  look good feel you is the classic line,  so why not have a complete day of manicures pedicures, and maybe even a massage?  Heck if you are feeling froggy order a couple’s massage and just have them rub you down twice.
  4. Get out of town:   Why not go on an adventure?  Get out into nature and enjoy it, whether you are fishing, hiking, or doing something else.  Getting out of town and enjoying the beauty of nature is more enjoyable than watching the spectacle of “love” being paraded around town.
  5. Enjoy a night at home: When you get off work. Go by some of the discounted candy,  order some delivery, and binge-watch that Netflix show you have been meaning to watch. Because in the end, it’s just another Tuesday

Hopefully, some of these ideas will help you out if you are dreading Valentine’s Day.  But if you are still feeling a little anxious about just remember that statistically, 1 out of 14 people will break up tomorrow. So you have that going for you.
