There’s new initiative and organization behind the effort to coordinate Cody’s homemade personal protective equipment.
An influx of Cody residents has taken it upon themselves to assist Cody’s healthcare responders by sewing cloth masks, due to the increasing sparsity of personal protective equipment seen in every part of the country. But all these efforts have been spontaneous, rather than coordinated.
Enter the Home-Made Mask Project, coordinated by Marla Isbell, who is now charged with providing and securing the materials needed for the masks. It’s not just surgical masks that are needed and being created, but overlooked items likes surgical caps and full body gowns. And the most needed material? Elastic. It’s in short supply throughout the country but is an essential part of all the PPE being created.
Donations of materials – or the money needed to purchase materials – is extremely welcome especially since, as Isbell explains, most of these sewing citizens are doing this with their own supplies at their own expense – and it’s getting thread-bare out there. Anyone with sewing experience is encouraged to lend a hand.
Anyone interesting in donating money or materials, or just hoping to lend their needle and thread to the cause is encouraged to contact Marla Isbell directly at marlaisbell@yahoo.com.
