Cubs Host Lovell For First Conference Games Tonight

THE 2020 CODY CUBS LEGION BASEBALL SEASON IS OFF AND RUNNING. THE CUBS, THROUGH THEIR FIRST WEEK OF GAME ACTION, SIT AT 2-5 ON THE SEASON. THIS IS A TEAM THAT HAS SHOWN PROMISE AND THE ABILITY TO WIN A LOT OF GAMES BUT IT’S STILL EARLY AND THEY’RE CONTINUING TO FIGURE THINGS OUT. AFTER PLAYING FIVE GAMES OVER THE LAST WEEKEND, HEAD COACH BART GRENZ GIVES HIS WEEKEND RECAP.

“I THINK WE REALLY IMPROVED IN ALMOST EVERY ASPECT. WE JUST HAVEN’T PUT IT TOGETHER FOR A FULL GAME. OFFENSIVELY, WE STARTED TO HIT THE BALL A LITTLE BETTER ON SUNDAY BUT OUR DEFENSE KIND OF DIDN’T WORK HARD ENOUGH AND BE AGGRESSIVE ENOUGH TO MAKE THE PLAYS TO KEEP US AHEAD.”

AS FOR WHAT’S NEXT FOR THE CUBS, THEY GET SET FOR THEIR FIRST CONFERENCE GAMES OF THE SEASON TODAY, WHEN THEY WELCOME LOVELL TO TOWN. COACH GRENZ ON THE IMPACT A CONFERENCE GAME PRESENTS.

“THE KIDS KNOW THAT THE CONFERENCE GAMES ARE IMPORTANT. UNLIKE THE PREVIOUS YEARS, WE’LL HAVE A DISTRICT ROUND ROBIN TOURNAMENT TO DECIDE SEEDING AT STATE. SO THE GAMES NOT MAYBE AS IMPORTANT AS IN THE PAST BUT ANYTIME YOU PLAY CONFERENCE GAMES THE KIDS HAVE A LITTLE MORE FOCUS AND INTENSITY.”

AS FOR HOW THE CUBS APPROACH A CONFERENCE GAME, COACH GRENZ SAYS IT’S BUSINESS AS USUAL.

“WE JUST TRY TO DO THE SAME THING ALL THE TIME. SHOW UP, PLAY HARD, WORK TOGETHER. WHETHER IT’S A CONFERENCE GAME OR NOT, WE JUST WANT TO KEEP IMPROVING AND BE TOGETHER AS A TEAM.”

AND COACH GRENZ GOES ON TO TALK ABOUT LOVELL AND THE CHALLENGES THEY PRESENT.

“LOVELL IS ALWAYS SCRAPPY. THEIR KIDS PLAY HARD, THEY WORK HARD, THEY USUALLY DON’T GIVE IN. IF WE CAN COME OUT AND THROW SOME RUNS ON THE BOARD EARLY AND GET SOME MOMENTUM, I THINK WE’LL BE FINE.”

THE CODY CUBS HOST THE LOVELL MUSTANGS FOR THEIR FIRST CONFERENCE GAMES OF THE SEASON, TONIGHT, AT MILWARD L. SIMPSON STADIUM. THE DOUBLE HEADER IS SCHEDULED FOR A 5PM START TIME AND YOU CAN HEAR ALL OF THE ACTION ON KODI.
