The much-anticipated temple will become an architectural landmark in Cody and northwest Wyoming is already a point of pride for the local church community.
Anticipation and excitement are building in northwest Wyoming for the Cody Temple for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Now, local church members have an image of what will soon be constructed in their community.
A rendering of the Cody Temple was published Monday, March 27, on ChurchofJesusChrist.org. It shows an elegant structure dominated by a tall tower at the center.
The single-story structure – to be built on the west side of Skyline Drive and north of the Cody Canal – will have a footprint of approximately 9,950 square feet.
Church President Russell M. Nelson announced the Cody Temple on Oct. 3, 2021, during the church’s general conference. The Cody Temple was one of thirteen temples announced, many currently under construction in the United States and countries like Brazil, Taiwan, Madagascar, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
According to the church’s website, “one in every nine residents of Wyoming, or approximately 68,000 people, claim membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This will be the state’s third temple – the other temples are the Casper Wyoming Temple and Star Valley Wyoming Temple.”
Wyoming has an important place in the history of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Pioneers traveled across the state in their westward migration to Utah, primarily from the 1840s to the 1860s.
As of Tuesday, March 28, a groundbreaking date for the Cody Temple has yet to be announced.
