CHS Graduation Could Be Outside

Park County School District #6 Superintendent Peg Monteith

Cody High School’s prom is expected to return to normal, while this year’s graduation ceremony could be held outside.

Monday morning on KODI’s “Speak Your Piece with Darian Dudrick,” Park County School District No. 6 Superintendent Peg Monteith was happy to report the Cody school year continues to roll along after swirling uncertainty last fall due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As of Monday morning, there were no COVID cases in the district, Monteith said.

“Just looking around the country, I’m so proud of us that we’ve been able to have our schools open all year,” she said. “We’re almost there (last day of school is Friday, May 28). We’ve got about six weeks of school left.”

With COVID currently under control in the district, Monteith said plans are to have a regular prom this year. It’s scheduled for Saturday, April 24.

As for graduation Saturday, May 29, Monteith said seniors are wanting to have the ceremony outside at Spike Vannoy Field due to likely public health restrictions in Sweitzer Gym. The gym, nevertheless, would be a backup location in the case of inclement weather.

Also on SYP, Monteith and Dudrick discussed the budget and potential cuts.
