Broncs Get First Win of the Season and Fillies Keep Hot Streak Going in Sweep of Lovell

The Fillies and Broncs traveled to Lovell Saturday night for a varsity double header where both teams were able to win in convincing fashion.

The Fillies won 50-22 while the Cody Broncs were able to capture the first victory of their season winning 55-41.

In the Fillies matchup they showcased their ability to play at their own pace and keep the possession arrow in their favor with over 10 offensive rebounds

The first quarter started with Fillies swarming the ball on defense and shooting efficiently on offense scoring 14 points and only allowing three on defense.

The second quarter scoring for the Fillies wasn’t the same with them only scoring six points but the defense didn’t waver with the halftime score of 20 to eight.

The freshman Molly Hays had half of those points in the first half with 10.

The halftime break didn’t seem to mess up any momentum as the Fillies started out on an incredible 19 to nothing run in the 3rd. It was discipline on the defensive side creating a lot of the scoring opportunities pick pocketing the ball on defense frequently.

Brittan Bower had a play that created a lot of energy with a block straight into her own score that was a capitalized and-one.

It wasn’t until five seconds were left in the quarter that the Lady Bulldogs were able to score their first and only bucket of the 3rd.

Fillies headed into quarter four up 39-10.

The Lady Bulldogs weren’t able to muster up a comeback as Cody kept control winning the game 50-22. Molly Hays was the leading scorer with 12. Every Cody Filly varsity player got the chance to get on the floor Saturday night.

The Fillies record now stands at 4-1.

The Broncs, now having to live up to a performance that set the bar fairly high, began their matchup against a 1-4 Bulldogs team trying to attain their first win of the season.

The exceptional athletes for the Broncs made themselves known early as Cod Phillips and Nic Talich were forcing turnovers left and right.

Three early threes and collective energy got the Broncs out to a 19-14 lead after the 1st. Cody Phillips was responsible for two of those triples and had 9 total first quarter points.

The Broncs retained their lead in the 2nd quarter ending the half up 30-23 looking maybe the best they had all season on offense.

The third quarter was textbook basketball with each team having their fair share of runs. Cody’s clean play was enough for them to retain their lead and even extend it heading into the 4th up 41-32.

The Broncs were one quarter away form their first win of the season and they didn’t take that lightly scoring at will to start the 4th with back to back threes from Tristan Dollard and Cody Phillips.

They didn’t waver from that start retaining the lead and securing the win 55-41. Phillips along with Luke Talich led the way in points with 17 each helping the teams record improve to 1-4 on the season.

The Fillies and Broncs will host Worland on Tuesday for a double header.
