The Cody Broncs and Fillies hosted the Worland Warriors on Tuesday, January 12th in what ended up as a nail biter win for the Fillies and a prideful loss for the Broncs.
The Fillies faced an 11 point deficit at halftime which was as much as 12 vs. the Lady Warriors but it wasn’t because of bad shots, just not the best execution.
That got turned around in the second half as they were able to start the comeback in the 3rd reducing the deficit down to seven.
The 4th quarter for the fillies is when things clicked on all cylinders as they put up 16 points in just the 4th quarter. They had 21 points in the first three quarters of play.
The fillies were able to gain a lead with just over a minute left in the game and retain the lead with the game coming down to fouls and free throws with the Fillies coming out on top 37-33.
The leading scorer for the fillies was Molly Hays with 11, while Reece Niemann added eight points all in the second half and Ally Boysen was able to put up six all in the fourth.
Following the girls game was the Broncs where their first half defensive effort was lack luster to say the least falling behind 50-18 midway. They would eventually lose 73-49.
The 3rd quarter was so encouraging to watch as the Broncs outscored the Warriors 17-7 in the 3rd quarter and 31-23 for the entire half.
That kind of grit in determination shown even when facing such a tough deficit is the kind of fight that will win you games down the stretch.
The leading scorers for the Broncs were Caleb Pryor with 11 and Luke Talich with nine.
The Fillies are now 5-1 and riding a five game win streak while the Broncs fall to 1-4. Both teams will host Kelly Walsh on Friday, January 15th in Cody.
