The Antelope Butte Ski Area in the Bighorn Mountains recently reached a milestone in their fundraising efforts that will go towards the re-opening of the resort.
Antelope Butte Mountain Recreation Area is a nonprofit year-round facility located in the Bighorn National Forest, currently under restoration, with a goal of opening yet this year.
Josh Law, Chief Operations Officer for the Antelope Butte Foundation, says donations are going to lodge improvements. Law says since 2015, the Foundation has raised over $2 million towards a goal of $3.6 million that would allow for the reopening.
Antelope Butte has been closed since 2004, but before its demise, the ski area served residents in Sheridan and Bighorn Counties since its inception in the 1960s. Law says the chairlift at the resort is projected to be safely operable by October 5th.
Law adds that activities at Antelope Butte will include skiing and snowboarding, mountain biking, and special events, such as the Beerfest that was held there just last week.
For more information, or to find out how you can contribute, Law says he is glad to meet with individuals personally, or you can visit their website at www.antelopebutte.org.
